People ask me all the time how I got into coaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and I’ve never really given a straight answer. It’s hard to tell when I truly started, but here’s my story.

When I was 13 or 14 I was getting ready to leave the kids program and start doing adult classes. When that time came, I then got asked to help out in the kids program. Of course I was like “absolutely.” After that I never truly left teaching.

I moved to Georgia when I was 15. I had just mentioned to the new gym I was at, if they ever needed help, to let me know. One day, a coach was not going to be there so they asked me to step in. Of course I did it! I continued being an assistant coach there from the age of 15-18.

When Compound fitness was opened and I was asked to be the head kids instructor I was so stoked! This was the first time I got to truly be in charge of a class and it’s curriculum.

Jiu Jitsu has always been a part of my life. As it seems… I wouldn’t want to have it any other way.
